Known for its smartphone models with bold designs, Oppo will now enter the line of extendable devices with the Oppo X 2021. This week, some hands-on videos of the model were released and show that the cell phone may be very close to arriving.
Unlike foldables like the Samsung galaxy z fold or the Motorola Razr (or even the yet to be released Huawei Mate X2), the Oppo X 2021 does not have a screen that opens and closes, but rather a display that expands laterally, increasing its size considerably. Tests with the Oppo X 2021's extendable screen were carried out in environments controlled by the company, but it is still impressive to see that the model is already in a very advanced state of development.
The phone was revealed in November, during Oppo Inno Day 2020. At the time, the manufacturer explained that the device works with a special 2-in-1 board, which acts as a stand when the screen is contracted or extended. “Compared to foldable technologies, rollable displays are much more adaptable as they are adjustable between minimum and maximum size for different use case scenarios,” said Henry Tang, one of the smartphone’s development leads.
Also according to the information released, the Oppo X screen is OLED, continuous and flexible, of at least 6,7 inches and at most 7,4 inches, which extends like a scroll with a single touch. The smartphone is expected to be launched later this year, but there is no specific date yet.
