Through a statement, the Motorola Motorola Corp. said it is changing the way the Razr will be delivered to consumers. The foldable device, a modern clamshell, will arrive sealed in the box. The decision was made to prevent the device from cracking or splitting during shipping. The problem is that this was not the original plan, which was to ship with the phone open, showing the screen to the consumer, like a regular smartphone. With the change, Motorola is having to unpack, fold and repack millions of Razrs, which is done manually.
Motorola decided to speak out after an issue with Amazon. Consumers were receiving their Razrs with the packaging open. According to Amazon, it was opening the packages and closing the cell phone to prevent damage. It apologized for the fact that, in addition to the package being opened, fingerprints had been left on the screen due to the process.

Some consumers were bothered by their thumbs on their phones. It's not just about aesthetics, or having their packages opened by third parties, but also about hygiene: according to COVID-19 protection practices, factory and retail workers must sanitize their hands and products, as well as wear gloves before handling certain items. Fingerprints are a bad sign.
Motorola, however, said that this will not be the case with its devices: “Motorola will repackage the RAZR in its closed position directly at the factory. Once the device leaves our facilities, it is not reopened. Motorola has strict handling requirements, including the use of gloves and sanitation procedures, in addition to normal shipping protocols, in order to provide a great out-of-the-box experience. As we do with all products, we will continue to monitor and make additional adjustments as needed to deliver the best experience for the consumer.”
The Motorola Razr was released in early October, featuring a Snapdragon 765G processor, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of internal storage and a 6,7-inch (when open) by 2,7-inch (when closed) foldable display.
