All about the best cell phones

One of the most promising emerging technologies is flexible screens (or displays), in the form of foldable or extendable (“rollable”). They allow for a variety of creative possibilities to change the design of an object that has basically remained unchanged since the launch of the iPhone 1 in 2008. Last year, Xiaomi created a patent for an extendable cell phone, capable of transforming the device into a kind of tablet, since the screen expands horizontally. Now, the website Let's Go Digital released images based on this patent.

Eye-catching images and video

It is important to emphasize that these are illustrative images, that is, they are not official images and make use of artistic freedom. The person responsible for the images is the artist. Jermaine Smit. Apparently, it was based on a Xiaomi prototype announced last year, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha, which ended up being canceled by the company.

The artistic decision makes sense, considering that the Mi Mix Alpha would have a new screen that would cover the entire phone, and that this patent promises a smartphone with an equally innovative screen. The artist did nothing more than combine the two ideas.

In the image above, we can see how the artist chose to expand the Xiaomi's extendable screen to its edges and the result is really attractive. The triple camera system is not included in the original patent, and could even be considered a guess by the artist, since we don't have any information about the model yet.

In fact, the illustration shows how the phone basically turns into a tablet. It's easy to guess that the screen doubles in size when fully extended. When the phone is in its standard format, however, both the front and what could be considered its back, because of the cameras, have screens. All the possible functions of Xiaomi's extendable device can be seen in more detail in the following video, also created by Content Creator, who named it Xiaomi Mi Alpha R:

It's still too early to say what the extendable Xiaomi will be like. Judging by the images and the video, the concept of the smartphone looks very futuristic. This could result in another phone being canceled by the company. On the other hand, much of what is seen in the artwork is mere hypothesis. It's possible that this Xiaomi model won't have the dual screen that covers the entire device, which makes its design more likely. We'll just have to wait for a leak or for Xiaomi to make a statement.
