All about the best cell phones

A Apple may have many hugely successful products, but from a marketing perspective, the iPhone 12 Mini was definitely not one of them, and the small (and powerful) smartphone ended up becoming a failure in the company's history. Even bringing the brand's appeal and the A14 Bionic processor in a more compact body — in addition to a Super Retina XDR display and 5G connectivity — the device didn't catch on even with all efforts da Apple, and so the Cupertino company decided to reduce its production.

According to financial market sources, de novo a Apple Apple Inc. is cutting its sales forecast for the United States and asking its partners and suppliers — such as Foxconn — to put more effort into models like the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. The failure of the iPhone 12 Mini could be responsible for a 20% decrease in Apple's sales expectations, which are now working with an estimate of producing 75 million smartphones by June.

iPhone SE vs iPhone 12 Mini

For some it may be surprising that the iPhone 12 Mini failed when the iPhone SE — launched in 2020 — did well in sales. Some differences, however, were crucial to its good performance.

The iPhone SE was priced significantly lower than the 12 Mini ($399 vs. $729, or R$3.699 vs. R$6.999), and it also had the classic iPhone look and feel, including the Touch ID button. The device arrived with a very well-paved road to attract a generation of iPhone 6s and later users who were eager for a product that didn't cost a fortune.

Isn't it time for minis?

Anyone who got excited about the official launch of the iPhone 12 Mini, and now sees its failure, should prepare not to see new initiatives of this type in the short and medium term. Apple, in fact, was not the only one to bet on a more compact cell phone in recent years: Samsung did the same with the Galaxy S10e.

As many can see, neither the S20 nor S21 generation received a “pocket” model, which was already a sign that Samsung's decision for the S10e did not result in a success that would justify a new generation of the mini flagship.

Both the iPhone 12 Mini and S10e are good smartphones and, thanks to the fact that they are top of the line, they will still be on the market for a few years. Now is the time for those who want a compact device to go after one and secure theirs now. It doesn't seem like manufacturers will continue to be motivated to invest in phones that are as small in size as they are in terms of profit.
