There have been reports for some time now that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will support the S Pen. However, it appears that the new generation of the Samsung foldable there won't be one slot to store the pen, as is the case with the Note line models. The expectation is that the accessory will work in a similar way to occurs on the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which is compatible but does not come with the device included.

According to a report from South Korean outlet NaverNews, the initial idea was to include a slot for the S Pen in the Z Fold 3, however, the development team encountered some structural challenges in the process. Basically, the new smartphone must be thinner than its predecessor, which made it difficult to include the product.

An S Pen Pro (provisional name) is also expected to be released alongside the device. Special cases to store the accessory should also be made available, as is the case with the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

S Pen compatibility should be the main new feature of the Z Fold 3, which should have a bigger launch this year since Samsung is not expected to announce a new Galaxy Note. Thus, the foldable should be the company's main smartphone after the S line.

Specifications offered by insider Chun Corp show that the next Z Fold could have a 5,4 inch external screen, much smaller than the 6,23 inches of the Z Fold 2. Internally, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 would be 7,7 inches, revealing that at least in physical dimensions it would be practically identical to its predecessor.

The models may finally have a major competitor with similar technology on the market, now that Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold made official. With Huawei hampered by US sanctions, the South Korean swam with ease in this segment. The scenario is starting to change.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and S Pen reveal event is expected to take place in July. The same presentation is expected to showcase the new Galaxy Z Flip and also the Galaxy S21 FE, an updated and more affordable version of the standard S21.
