All about the best cell phones

It seems that, finally, iPhones will arrive with high refresh rates. Apple switched its orders from Samsung from OLED to LTPO screens, according to report from market research firm UBI Search. And these screens allow images to be displayed at a rate of 1Hz to 120Hz. In other words, the iPhone 13 will have precisely that limit, 120Hz.

The hesitation of Apple it was about the possibility of this compromise battery life. With LTPO panels, the risk is reduced, as they work dynamically to avoid reaching the maximum refresh rate all the time. In fact, the panel can behave with a very low refresh rate, from 1Hz to 10Hz, in standby situations or on static screens. With the cell phone refreshing the images at such a low frequency, this ends up compensating for moments of high rates.

With this, the use of Samsung LTPO screens in devices from Apple could rekindle the possibility of an Always-On Display on the iPhone 13. Even so, it is most likely that this type of panel will be restricted to the 2021 Pro models. In 2020 the Apple brought a bold strategy, including OLED panels and 5G even in the most “economical” models. This is a sign that in 2021 the hierarchy will once again become better defined, with consumers who will pay more and get more features.

The expectation is that Samsung's production of screens for the Apple start in the first half of the year. This is because the production process has a longer schedule: there are two additional weeks for the completion of the panels. Long-time partners of Apple, LG and BOE will produce displays only for the non-Pro models. With the failure of the iPhone 12 Mini It's hard to know whether they'll have the screens of two products in their hands, or just the regular iPhone 13. The official launch of the new phones, as always, should happen in September.
