The new beta of Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft's gaming service, will certainly excite fans of portable gameplay and especially those who have a Surface Duo. The smartphone has just gained support for the gaming app, as have other dual-screen devices, following hearsay indicating the coming of his successor.
Do we finally have a Microsoft laptop?

A video on Twitter, posted by Tom Warren, editor of The Verge, showed xCloud in action on the Surface Duo, and the result is quite interesting. In addition, it is easy to see how this update solves one of the main problems of playing on mobile: the fact that the controls usually take up a considerable part of the screen, hindering gameplay a little. In contrast, the update allows one screen to be used for the game itself and another just for the controls.
Number of games is still limited
While this is great news, the number of games that support dual screens is currently limited. There are only 20 games in total, including games like Minecraft Dungeons and Dead Cells. This is offset, however, by the ability to control certain games using the Surface Duo's built-in gyroscope, such as Gears 5 from the Gears of War series. This means that players can navigate through the game simply by moving their phone.
The combination of the use of a gyroscope and a second touch screen makes the Surface Duo look like a cross between the PS Vita, Sony's latest handheld, and the Nintendo DS. While the former allowed the player to control certain movements using the gyroscope, the latter had a second screen with the explicit purpose of making game controls easier. In other words, for practical purposes, the Surface Duo ended up becoming a Xbox portable.
Update is very welcome
The update certainly brings more possibilities to Microsoft's dual-screen smartphone. Previously, many reviews had called the Surface Duo too niche, lacking anything that would give it a wide target audience. Microsoft's plan ecosystem, apparently, is precisely to take advantage of this change of scenery, which means that it won't be long before the final version of this update is released.
