Users Twitter woke up with a surprise this Thursday (17), the social network returned to the old standard, with separate options for commented and uncommented retweets. This reversed the change that placed the retweet with comment (or Quote Tweets as the platform calls it) as standard when “RT”ing some content.
Created in August, the model arrived with the intention of encouraging more interactions on the social network. Since it tried to prevent you from simply retweeting posts from other users, something extremely common on the platform.
Despite this, the change did not please most users who use the Twitter for a long time, which explains the brief end of the standard retweet with comment. According to the developers themselves, the change did not have the intended effect and was therefore removed. Now, the “retweet” and “retweet with comment” options have reappeared.
Changes are not always welcome
“We hoped this change would encourage thoughtful amplification and also increase the likelihood that people would add their own thoughts, reactions, and perspectives to the conversation. However, we found that prompting Tweets with commentary did not appear to add context. 45% of Tweets with additional quotes included only a single word, and 70% were less than 25 characters long,” the statement said. According to the text, the new standard also reduced the number of retweets on the platform. Yes, apparently users did not feel very encouraged to comment on certain content. Even though citation was not mandatory, they ended up not sharing it. In these months, Twitter recorded a 20% reduction in the number of tweets shared.
The Quote Tweet, as Twitter calls the retweet with comment, is yet another attempt by the platform to modernize its traditional system. The social network recently added Fleets, quite similar to Instagram stories. Although it is still active, it does not seem to have gained much popularity among users.
Twitter is also testing an audio sending system, but the system is still in testing and, for now, is only available in the app for some users, with no forecast of when it will arrive on the web version of the service.
