All about the best cell phones

Huawei has filed a patent describing the use of an infrared thermometer to measure the temperature of a person or object using a smartphone or tablet. This isn't exactly news, as the company itself has already launched some solutions for this, both with its private label and by its subsidiary Honor (before your sale).

According to a the Chinese website Sina Tech, the measurement would be performed through one of the cameras on the device. The display would be available on the device's screen. The document with the patent, “Mobile Phone with Graphical User Interface for Temperature Measurement and Display Results”, was submitted by the Shenzhen company on 31/03 and officially published last Tuesday (17/11).

Between the lines, it is possible to assume that the adoption of a smartphone with a digital thermometer on Huawei phones is directly linked to the explosion of the Covid-19 pandemic at the beginning of the year. Fever is one of the most common symptoms in infected people.

Despite the patent, recent releases already have a thermometer

As we have already mentioned, recently, Huawei launched two cell phones that already have the ability to measure temperature. The first cell phone with an infrared thermometer is the Honor Play 4 Pro Measurement Edition, produced by the (then) subsidiary of Huawei. The other, more sophisticated, is the Mate 40 RS Porsche Design, released last month.

Both devices come with an infrared camera capable of measuring temperatures from -20° to 100° C. This is the ideal range to identify whether a person has a fever or not. And, as described in the patent and already published, the collected value is displayed through a graphical interface on the smartphones themselves.

According to a article published by the South China Morning Post, Huawei is the company that has registered the most patents for wireless technology since January, having filed 8607 applications. The Chinese company has surpassed Qualcomm in the lead in the ranking. Will Huawei's next smartphone feature an infrared thermometer? Let's hope so, as this is a very useful feature.
