O Apple Music Prometheus still in the first half of the year Hi-Fi music and spatial sound (Dolby Atmos) on its service. It kept its promise at the beginning of June, at least on iOS, and on Android it implemented the new features in beta version. Unlike some of its competitors, the company didn't charge extra for high sound quality. Now, if you use the Apple Music on Android and don't want to use the most unstable version of the app, the good news is that it has been updated and now features Hi-Fi and Dolby Atmos in the public version as well.
The update is being distributed via the Play Store, and in the release notes you can check out the new features in detail. Users will be able to listen to or download songs in AAC (audio format). Apple), Hi-Fi, or Hi-Res lossless. The difference is that the first has always been available and offers good playback with high compression; the second brings more bandwidth for music at up to 24-bits / 48 kHz — best used with wired headphones; and in the latter, the ideal is to use a digital to analog converter (the famous DAC), since the format brings tracks of up to 192 kHz — even more sound quality, but with restrictions for full use.
It is worth noting that, the higher the quality, the more disk space the tracks will require. Apple describes that a Hi-Fi song on Android can reach 35 MB, and a Hi-Res lossless song can reach 135 MB. For example, with 10 GB free on your phone, you can store around 3 thousand songs in standard quality, a thousand in Hi-Fi, and only 200 in maximum quality.
Dolby Atmos also arrives for Android
In addition to Hi-Fi, the Apple Music for Android gets spatial audio. This is what the company has chosen to call Dolby Atmos, an auditory immersion technology that aims to create the effect of voice, instruments, and other sound elements in “layers” on compatible speakers and headphones. Select albums are available in this format. The platform has special playlists for content encoded in this way.
Finally, it is now also possible to use the crossfade feature, in which the next song starts before the last one ends. This gives the listener the sensation of a smooth transition between songs — so as not to interrupt continuous playback. All new features need to be activated in the app, and of course, they can be deactivated at any time.
It is worth remembering that Apple Music can be signed with 50% discount by university students. In this modality, the Apple TV Plus is free. Another service with Hi-Fi music on sale recently is Tidal, which offers three months of its best package for free to new subscribers.
