Apple has its own way of bringing new security fixes to iOS. These updates arrive alongside new versions of the system, alongside new features — or not. The fact is that, until now, it has always been necessary to upgrade the OS to the master version of the year to ensure all the necessary protection. But that will change, since Apple promises to continue updating iOS 14 even after the arrival of iOS 15.

Not everyone likes to update their iPhone to the latest system. Those who have an older device fear greater performance or battery wear. Until then, Apple only allowed consumers to stay up-to-date on an older OS if their device was not compatible with the latest iOS. For example, an iPhone 6 could receive iOS 12 updates for security improvements, but an iPhone 6s or later would be required to follow the path of iOS 13, 14, and eventually 15.

Interestingly the Apple Apple Inc. has decided to continue updating iOS 14 even with iOS 15 coming in a year where compatibility was maintained for all iPhones. No Apple smartphone has left the list of upgradable phones. Even so, those who do not wish to move forward will be able to do so and remain safe. The company has always been proud of the high adoption numbers of its OSes, but to make this move, it must not be projecting massive adoption of this new option.

It is worth remembering that the first beta — for developers — of iOS 15 is already available. In July, the company will release the test version for anyone interested. The public version will be released in the second half of the year, alongside the iPhone 13 — which may come full of news.
