HMD Global is preparing another unusual launch for the American market, which, in fact, is almost a museum piece. It is the Nokia 2720 V Flip, a revamped version of the old 2720 in the best old-school style. feature phones. To compensate, the new Nokia 2720 V Flip will have 4G connectivity, as well as support for Google Assistant. It is worth remembering that this cell phone was launched globally at the end of 2019, but only is coming to the North American market now.
As you may have already noticed, the name flip does not refer to a product with a foldable screen, but to the original model in the format clamshell. The top part is the screen and the bottom part is a numeric keypad, reminiscent of many old Nokia phones and many competitors. In fact, the function of answering a call when opening the phone and hanging up the call when closing it has been maintained in this new version.
1,3-inch external screen and 2,8-inch internal screen
The device's keyboard will be tactile, meaning there will be buttons to be pressed and the buttons will be large. The device will have a 1,3-inch external screen that will display information while the phone is closed, while the internal screen should measure 2,8 inches (without details of the material).
If it's not yet clear what the purpose of this device is, it (of course) does not run the Android operating system, but rather KaiOS. Despite this, as we already mentioned, the Nokia 2720 V Flip should have access to Google Assistant to search the internet or make calls using voice commands. In addition, with a 4G connection or Wi-Fi access, it will be possible to download apps from the KaiStore.
Finally, its battery should last up to 26 days in standby mode, which may seem impressive compared to smartphones that last much less, but it is worth remembering that this is quite common in feature phones.
If you're in the United States and want to buy this revamped old phone, it will go on sale there on May 20th. The Nokia 2720 V Flipe will be sold by Verizon in the US, and will probably already have some kind of phone plan included, for a bargain price of $80, which is approximately R$424 without taxes or fees, but still too expensive for what it offers.
