Google this week began publishing a series of videos that will explain Pixel features based on real user stories. Titled “True Pixel Story,” the first two videos highlight the company’s Live Caption and car crash detection features.
First video shows Pixel smartphones' live caption feature
The first video, “First Call with My Son,” tells the story of Matthew, who was born deaf, and his hearing son Harry. In it, thanks to the instant captions, the father can see all of his son's speech on the smartphone screen. Live Caption, as the function is officially called, generates subtitles from any audio played on the pixel. The tool also works offline and performs well even if the user is on a low latency connection.
Second video shows how automatic collision detection works
The second video, “The Crash That Called”, tells the story of Chris. After suffering an accident at a winding intersection, Pixel performed the automatic collision detection and the user can easily call for help. The crash detection tool makes the phone vibrate and ring loudly during a crash. Users can call for help or tap the on-screen button to make an emergency call. If the user is injured, Google automatically connects them: in this scenario, the phone mentions that “there’s been a car accident” and shares its current location.
Examples of car crash detection in action have been shared arbitrarily on Twitter, but Google has been highlighting the feature more prominently lately. The feature is available on the Pixel 3, 4, 4a, 4a 5G, and 5 in the US, UK, and Australia.
Both videos end with an invitation for the user to share their story in the email. [email protected]. Although we are not talking about new features, they are still very useful, and this campaign draws attention by bringing real-life data to exemplify the reasons why.
