Samsung's new foldables, Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip 3 are close to arriving and, this Friday (07/05), leaked details about the certification of the two flagships revealed that both will maintain the charging speed of the current generation. And it won't be anything impressive, at a time when the competition is releasing phones with chargers up to 67W.
Responsible for the discovery, the leaker Digital Chat Station posted on your Weibo account, China's main social network, that the SM-F7110 model, the code used to identify the Z Flip 3 on 3C (a regulatory body similar to Anatel) will have a maximum charging of 15W. The SM-9260 model, also known as the Z Fold 3, will be equipped with a 25W charger.
Smaller charging for smaller battery
The revelation that the charging of the new generations of the Z Fold and Z Flip 3 will not exceed 25W does not come as a surprise. In fact, as they are foldable smartphones, they will be equipped with smaller batteries than those found in traditional flagships, such as the Galaxy S21, also from Samsung.
Because of this, the bad news is that it will certainly need to stay plugged in for longer when it needs charging. The Z Flip 5G, for example, has a 3300 mAh battery, much smaller than the traditional 4000 or 4500 mAh ones. Its charging speed is 15W, and it takes approximately 30 minutes of power to reach about 40% of the battery charge, and an hour and a half (90 minutes) to get a “full tank”.
The Z Fold 3, in turn, should be less “annoying” to charge than the Z Flip, as it will have a slightly higher charging speed, of 25W. If it really is follow the predecessor's pattern, it can have a 45% charge in approximately half an hour, but it will take the same amount of time as the other foldable to reach 100%, if it is zeroed, that is, about an hour and a half.
Both flagships are scheduled to hit the market between June and July this year, and the downside of both the Z Fold 3 and the Flip 3 is much more unpleasant than supposed slower charging: the prices. The most recent rumors indicated that Samsung would charge a high price for the new models. To give you an idea, the Galaxy Z Fold 2, for example, costs R$12.599 in Brazil on Samsung's official website, in its 5G version. The Z Flip 5G was announced in Brazil for almost R$9, but is unavailable on the brand's website.
