Launched at the end of 2019, the Motorola One Hyper is a mid-range smartphone from Motorola that is finally receiving Android 11 abroad. The update, released by Google at the beginning of the second half of 2020, was finally adapted by the manufacturer to equip the smartphone with Snapdragon 675.
Seen here in Brazil the update has started on a small scale last month, it is now also being observed in the United States. Distributed publicly, the package only contains the March security patch, showing that the company apparently has not changed it since the first reports of this update being distributed.
The Android 11 update includes new security features for the Motorola One Hyper, including privacy tools such as controlling GPS permissions for single use or whenever a software is in the foreground. In terms of the interface, there are not many new features beyond those already seen when the phone had Android 10, as the manufacturer does not promote major customizations to the OS before equipping its devices.
One in name only
Google's Android One program is falling into disuse. It guarantees that devices included in the program will receive at least two OS updates. In 2019, when Motorola entered the Moto One family, the first two phones were certified for the program: the One Vision and One Action. Controversially, all other releases in the line were not.
In other words, even though it was called One Hyper, the smartphone was not guaranteed to receive Android 11, and as we know, Motorola has a history of updating some lines with just one update, or not even that (right, Moto E family?). For owners of this cell phone, however, the moment is good news.
