Reports of Redmi Note 9 Pro devices catching fire have worried consumers, manufacturers and authorities in India. Despite this, the brand Xiaomi has been saying that the cases have occurred due to user errors. This is not the first case of smartphones catching fire — and this is far from being something exclusive to Redmi.

Redmi says it's the users' fault

One of the most recent reports apparently came from the Twitter, where Indian user Priyanka Pavra said that her brother had been caught off guard by a thick amount of smoke coming out of the device. He then immediately threw the smartphone into the water in order to avoid greater danger (such as an explosion), but the device ended up catching fire and the damage was irreversible.

Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the images show a cracked display and burn marks on the bottom of the Redmi Note 9 Pro, right where the brothers claim to have seen the fire. Xiaomi said it was in contact with the two and that the reasons that led to the incident are still unknown. However, Redmi said it must have originated from an “external force” caused by the users.

By “external force,” we can understand several situations: a fall where a component of the device comes loose, for example, falls into this category, but at the present time, it is not possible to say that this was what caused the fire. Let's face it, it would take a considerable height for a simple fall to cause a short circuit or some other electrical failure that would cause a Redmi Note 9 Pro to catch fire.

According to Xiaomi, investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact cause of the problem. We also searched for the complainant's tweet, but could not find anything on the microblogging network.
