Em partnership with Huawei, Tim has started testing 5G technology in Brazil. But wait, we'll explain: it's the real 5G, not the DSS version already launched by several operators (including it). Still far from being a reality in the country, the fifth generation of networks should improve the speed and also the latency of connections.
The tests promoted by Tim reached 1.8 Gbps and used the parameters of 16GPP Release 3. In other words, it is a more modern protocol than Release 15. The difference is that while the technologies of the previous standard were in their infancy regarding how IoT devices and modern cars would connect to mobile networks, the new protocol brings more mature routines that can provide safer, more efficient connections that consume less energy.
Tim's performance is well ahead of the numbers recorded by 5G DSS: in 2020, Claro released the technology and reached 416 Mbps. The interesting thing, of course, will be to observe how networks behave when the technology is popular enough that every smartphone can access it.
Race for Brazilian 5G
The Italian company is not alone in its preparations for the fifth generation of mobile networks. Tim and other operators are already testing their future 5G operations on a small scale. The main problem is that the frequency auction has been ongoing for years. has been postponed by the regulatory body, Anatel.
It is necessary to define which bands will be allocated to the technology, and to clear the last bureaucratic steps before commercial plans can be made viable. Nokia, Huawei and Ericsson are the main names supplying infrastructure for the new mobile internet technology here.

In addition to providing a much more suitable structure for a reality in which billions of small screens are connected to the internet at all times, 5G should represent greater reliability for home intelligence systems, the internet of things, and of course, business and government systems. This is because low latency — that is, the time between a command sender and a receiver — is much shorter than in 4G.
One example of a system that could benefit from this is smart cars, those with automatic piloting systems. Imagine that fractions of a second can define an accident or a quick solution to a computational dilemma. 5G will allow necessary systemic queries to be carried out in a minimum amount of time.
Games will also benefit: more than speed, it is necessary that cloud gaming provide infrastructure capable of understanding a local user command and with minimal delay promoting action on the servers, especially in fighting or FPS titles.
It is worth remembering that more and more cell phones with 5G are arriving in Brazil. This is already a reality even for intermediate devices, and many of these can benefit from the DSS technology already practiced by most operators.
