WhatsApp beta version 2.21.9.6 for Android introduces a new feature that allows you to automatically clear your message history. But don't get too excited, as it is still internal and therefore cannot be accessed.

Well, not even testers are having access to this new option, which was revealed thanks to reverse engineering work on the app. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, this happens when inactive sections of code, which are compiled there, are “re-embedded” to generate the full view of a function. In this process, the new function was discovered, which indicates that temporary messages on the messenger will be able to receive an option to disappear after 24 hours.

The interface suggests that periods of 24 hours or seven days can be configured for the messenger to clear messages. The tool already allows for the configuration of a conversation-by-conversation behavior. In other words, the user will decide which chats should disappear for a period of time, and which can be saved without limitations.

It is worth noting that this feature affects the history of both the user who scheduled the automatic clearing of WhatsApp history and the recipient. Either party can change this setting at any time. For groups, administrators can enable or disable the feature, in addition to having the option to select which participants can change, enable or disable this routine.

Since the new timer option is not yet available, not even for beta testers, it will probably take some time to be rolled out publicly. It is certainly a possibility that will please those who consider weekly cleaning to be a long deadline. Another new feature that the app is expected to launch in the future involves accelerated audio playback, a long-standing reality of rival Telegram.
