Nowadays, many children end up not receiving the proper stimulus and encouragement to read, and others do not show interest in audiobooks due to the lack of illustrations, and with that in mind, Google Play Books (or Books) has announced a new tool to help families with children who have difficulty or cannot read.

No google blog, Vitaliy Dikker (Product Manager at Google Play Books) says that the platform now has the feature of reading and listening to stories. This new update allows the app to read the story to the child, causing the app to automatically turn pages or the reader to turn it manually.

The tool is very similar to karaoke, as the word read by the app is highlighted so that the child can follow along and read along. See an example below:

Most of the books with these features are for children aged 0 to 8. Among the titles, Google highlights three books: “Ara the Star Engineer”, which is focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), and two Sesame Street books, “We're Amazing, 1-2-3!” e “Family Forever”. In addition, the update also brings a dictionary with illustrations to complement the reading.

In addition to content for children, you can find other famous works in e-book format on the Google Play Books tab. For now, the platform only makes the books available in English, which can be useful for children learning a new language.
