Just like the selfie stick, it seems that VR headset technology in which you use your smartphone as a screen has not caught on. One clear proof of this is that Google is discontinuing the Google Cardboard accessory for virtual reality, which is great, it was made of cardboard. And, in fact, it was never even available for sale in Brazil.

Not that it would be difficult (with the help of tutorials on the internet) to improvise your own VR glasses to attach to your cell phone, but the move by the Mountain View company is significant: it shows that Google is no longer interested in this type of accessory. Launched in 2014, the product was very popular in the United States because it was a relatively cheap alternative to other products with better finishing. It cost US$ 15 (R$ 84 in direct conversion today, 03/03). After a few years, Google launched the Daydream headset, with a more robust finish like other rivals on the market, but it also has been discontinued.
In addition to the Cardboard virtual reality device, Google has launched an app with the same name, with interactive experiences geared towards the accessory. It is not known what the future holds for the app after the decision to discontinue the device. But it is not hard to imagine that there will be no major new features in the future…
As such, virtual reality initiatives are now more focused on the world of video games than ever before: Sony has officially launched a VR headset for the PlayStation 5, for example. One mobile manufacturer that has been keen on these accessories for a while now is Samsung, which launched the latest Gear VR compatible with smartphones in 2017. It was compatible with top-of-the-line devices up to the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S10. through an adapter. The South Korean's most recent bet is an augmented reality product for Windows.
