The founder of the far-right social network Gab, Andrew Torba, said that his platform was hacked and launched a heavy attack on the people he claims were involved in the incident. In his (clearly unhinged) words, these people were “mental illness demons”. In addition, Torba played the victim and said that not only was his personal account compromised, but that Donald Trump’s account was also compromised.

The insults made by the boy are directed to the complaints website DDoSecrets, which claims to have 70 GB of data hacked From Gab. DDoSecrets said it will selectively share more than 40 million pieces of information, including passwords and private posts, with journalists, social scientists and researchers. Due to the sensitive nature of the content and the large amount of private information, the content will not be made public. The site's account has been suspended on Twitter.

Emma Best is a journalist and one of the people behind DDoSecrets. In some of her Twitter posts, Best claimed to be the target of Torbe's attacks and reported a Telegram link where it is possible to access and monitor information about the data obtained in what is called GabLeaks. Emma Best also reinforces that DDoSecrets does not assume responsibility for the fact that the social network Gab was hacked.

Gab users surge after Capitol attack

Gab won a batch of new users in recent weeks, following the attack committed by Trump supporters against the Capitol on January 6, and the problems that Parler has been facing since then. This other social network has also become a refuge for extremists and hate speech and was suspended from the servers of Amazon, Apple and Google for, according to the companies, hosting threats of further violence. However, back on air recently hosted on Epik, a home for far-right sites banned from mainstream platforms that also houses Gab itself.

Regarding Donald Trump's account, which, according to Torba, was also compromised by the Gab hack, it is important to note that the former US President did not create an account on the platform itself. In fact, the founder of the social network himself created an official profile for the Republican, who lost the last election to Democrat Joe Biden. Trump never used the account, but for the interests of the owner of Gab, and as is usual in this far-right environment, this type of information is not given by the network in a clear way.

Virtually all of Gab's content has been hacked

In any case, as claimed by Emma Best, the more than 70 GB of hacked information contains practically everything that exists on Gab. Between personal data and posts, there is material for an almost complete analysis of users. Which could be of great importance for research on militias, neo-Nazis and even the QAnon and what happened on January 6th at the Capitol.

Information from over 15 Gab users and over 40 million posts on the site were hacked. Andrew Torba says his platform is taking the necessary security measures following the incident. The app's blog has already made a statement publication on Friday, February 26, two days before the furious post against the “demon” hackers on the network’s official Twitter profile. In the blog post, Gab takes a stance on the issue of passwords, the alleged hacker attack and attacks on journalists who were looking for information about this incident.
