All about the best cell phones

The split-screen feature, which lets you open two apps at the same time, has been available for some time on devices with Android 11. Now, Google is working on several changes for Android 12 and should improve the performance of apps that are visible at the same time. Google's new split screen already has a name. It will be called App Pairs and, as the name suggests, the idea is to create pairs of apps that work together.

Today, on Android devices, using the split-screen feature can be a bit complicated. You have to open an application and then activate the split-screen mode through the “recently viewed” option, which ends up hiding a good part of the application and the device returns to the home page so the user can choose the second application they want to open. Some companies have already created solutions for this, such as Samsung, with its foldable Galaxy Z Fold 2, but. It's not exactly an affordable cell phone: in Brazil, prices can reach R$13.000.

How to do?

Additionally, “App Pairs” will group two apps into one task. From there, you’ll be able to choose between two recently opened apps to become a “pair.” When this happens, it’ll be even easier to switch from using a single app to the newly created pair.

App Pairs will also feature a splitter that lets you adjust the amount of space each app takes up on the screen and even lets you swap the position of the two chosen apps with a simple double tap. There is still no information about a beta testing phase for Android 12 at the moment. However, the beta testing phase for Android 11, for example, was launched in mid-February last year, which indicates that the arrival of the new split screen may be close, at least in the testing phase.

It's important to remember that Android 12 will still take some time to become available to all users, which means there will be a lot of changes and App Pairs, like any other feature, is still at risk of being dropped.
