The mystery of the square at the back of the new Asus smartphone, as a video of the ROG Phone 5 (the ROG Phone 4, with another name) showing that there is a small screen there.
Are you curious? Check out a video below that shows this screen in operation:
The video is quite short and a bit blurry, but even with just a few seconds of demonstration, we can already evaluate the new feature. In addition, the smartphone appears to have thick corners, reminiscent of those of the ROG Phone 3. Appearance contradicts the teaser posted by Asus on Weibo.
The auxiliary screen will be used to display call and message notifications, among others. In addition, it will also display effects during gaming mode, which has an exclusive interface for games.
The information comes after a series of leaks about the phone on the Chinese social network. In fact, the ROG Phone 5 and the screen on the back are not the only confirmations. The same tipster also claims that the smartphone will come with a 6,6-inch OLED display. In addition, the display will have a high refresh rate, like the previous generation.
Some speculations
So far, we have several clues about the new line of smartphones from Republic of Gamers, a brand owned by Asus. A new cell phone ROG appeared on Geekbench with Snapdragon 888 with connectivity 5G, 8 GB of RAM and running Android 11. At the same time, Asus registered a device with the 3C under the name “ASUS_I005DA”. The name matches the registration of the “mystery device” on the benchmarking platform. The 3C registration also points to the use of a 65W charger and a dual-cell battery equivalent to 6500 mAh.
Finally, it's worth remembering that even the ROG Phone 5 may undergo changes before launch, from the secondary screen to other features. It's not confirmed whether the device will arrive with this name instead of ROG Phone 4. To confirm everything, we'll have to wait for the launch date, scheduled for March 3.
