After an update in October that brought a list of new features to the application that comes growing in number of users, Telegram has just released another update and this time the highlight is the possibility of create group voice chats.
The new feature, which is also available for desktop in an adapted version, allows the administrator of a Telegram group to open a room for voice chats. Unlike a call, this chat model works more freely, allowing the user to remain in the conversation while viewing their messages or even using other applications. Very similar to Discord's voice channels.
By enabling this option, a new tab appears in the app showing the total number of group members and how many are participating in the chat, along with a button to join the voice conversation. In addition, a pop-up also appears with a shortcut to control the smartphone's microphone so the user can turn it on or off, a speakerphone option, and a button to leave the conversation. The Android version also offers a floating widget that allows quick access to the shortcuts at any time.
For now, the new feature is focused on enabling voice chats, but Telegram has announced that it plans to expand the feature. The next update could bring video and screen sharing to chats.
Improvements to stickers and emojis
Along with this new feature, the company also brought improvements to stickers and animated emojis, new animations for Android and the ability to ask Siri to read your messages on iOS. Android users can edit a photo to add effects or stickers, something that was already possible on iOS. Meanwhile, iPhone users can tap the stylus button to edit and send the photo back. These two features were already available on one of the platforms, but are now available on both.
