Version 8.0 of Scanner Pro, one of the best-known apps developed for scanning documents, has been launched by Readdle this week on the App Store with lots of new features, a redesigned interface and, for the first time, a free version released for download. But don't get carried away: if you don't pay, you won't be able to enjoy all the features of the app.
According to Readdle, Scanner Pro is now classified as a freemium app, meaning it gives users the right to use some of the main features for free, but keeps other important features blocked, such as password protection of files or universal search.
Additionally, the free part of Scanner Pro places a watermark of the app on scanned documents that are saved or shared. This is a feature used by other similar apps, such as the famous CamScanner (it is worth remembering that this app infected Android devices in 2019).
Scanner Pro improvements not in the free version
As we said above, Scanner Pro continues to live up to its reputation as one of the best applications for scanning documents and, in version 8.0, it has several attractions to convince users to pay for the complete package of improvements.
The app's main highlights are the universal search, which allows users to find a document by word or phrase, even if it's not in the title. This makes it easier to search for documents related to a specific person or company, for example. Text Vision is another new feature that, according to Readdle, has made Scanner Pro even more interesting.
With its Text Vision feature, Scanner Pro “automatically recognizes text from your scans in 26 languages, making it searchable and selectable. This allows you to easily share a paragraph from a book to your note-taking app or copy any names or receipt numbers you scan,” the company says.
The paid version of Scanner Pro also differs from the free version by giving users the chance to password protect the app and any shared PDFs, automatically upload to the cloud, and not use a watermark on saved or shared documents.
The price charged for the complete package is US$ 20 per year – around R$ 101. According to Readdle, those who purchased previous versions of Scanner Pro will have free access to the new features forever, but in the future, if other new features appear, they will have to dig deep into their pockets to keep the app updated.
