She lives in Connecticut, USA, and has been on the social network for a year and a half. Charli D'Amelio, 16, is the first person to reach 100 million followers on TikTok.

Charli reached the number on Sunday and tweeted about it: “100 million people supporting me. I really can’t believe this is true.”

The teenager started using the social network without any great expectations, just to film and share her dance moves, filmed in her bedroom. Little by little, her profile gained relevance and in 2019 she reached her first million followers.

Rising Influencer

The teenager saw her career take off thanks to TikTok. This year, she launched a nail polish and makeup collection in collaboration with a major brand, filmed commercials, appeared in movies and TV shows, and even wrote a book. Forbes magazine reported in August that the young woman earned $4 million last year thanks to TikTok.

With videos that are absolutely normal for a 16-year-old girl, with dances, funny faces and everyday moments, Charli reached 100 million followers, but she is not immune to haters. The same week she reached 100 million followers on TikTok, Charli participated in a YouTube live of an influencer and commented on how cool it would be to reach that number of followers. Soon, she was bombarded with a series of criticisms, insults and even comments saying that she should kill herself. In tears, the teenager made a video on Social media coordinator commenting on the hate messages and even stated that he “didn’t know if he wanted to continue with this anymore”.
