The FaceApp app, which became immensely popular in mid-2019, has received an update in Android which has introduced new image features. Now, Faceapp allows age filters – which make you look older, younger or even with makeup and a hipster appearance – to also be used in video format. Previously, the game was limited to static images.
Some of the new features in version 4.0 of FaceApp are free: filters for making you look older, younger, for feelings like “Angry” and for actions like “Smile” are all free. However, some (“Hollywood”, “Makeup” and “Kiss”) are exclusive to paying users.

FaceApp generated considerable controversy in July 2019, when suspicions arose that its practice of storing photos uploaded by users on its servers could be used to violate privacy. Furthermore, some people accused the app of using the images to train facial recognition software.
FaceApp CEO Yaroslav Goncharov has vehemently denied both allegations. However, the company has never explained why it needs to store user images when it could, for example, process edited photos locally, on the smartphone itself.
Those suspicions appear to have subsided over time, allowing the app to enjoy a newfound popularity in 2020. With filters now working on video, it’s likely to maintain a high volume of new user adoption. The new version of FaceApp is now available for smartphones.
