All about the best cell phones

The Xiaomi Mi 10T smartphone, revealed at the end of September this year, is undoubtedly an intriguing addition to the brand's 2020 lineup. It's the new display model option: the Xiomi Mi 10T uses an LCD panel, not AMOLED. This is the industry standard and was previously used in the Xiaomi Mi 10. LCD is generally considered a less premium option, due to its lower cost and image quality.

The cell phone has a 6.67-inch screen that also differs from the previous version by abandoning the curved screen.

Ultimately, many people considered the upgrade a step backwards. But is it? Although some of the features of the Xiaomi Mi 10T is said to be a top-of-the-line phone, and it is speculated that this could be a strategy by the brand to use low-cost devices. In response, Daniel Hoang Desjarlais, senior product marketing manager at Xiaomi, said: about the decision to use LCD in an interview with TechRadar.

“It’s better to have a high-quality LCD, the best of the best LCD, than a mediocre type of AMOLED,” said Daniel Hoang Desjarlais.

The Xiaomi executive also cited eye strain as a reason for opting for the LCD screen on the Mi 10T.

“There are issues with AMOLED and with certain people’s eyes – I think 10% of the population, when looking at an AMOLED screen, feels very strong eye strain,” he added.

Out of the curve plan

Hoang Desjarlais explained why they opted for a flat screen instead of a curved panel, even noting that most users preferred the first option.

“I’ve done a lot of research and user surveys on this,” the executive said, “60% of users prefer the flat edge or flat screens.”

In other words, the justification is understandable, as there are some disadvantages to curved panels. One of them is the increased chance of damage if the phone is dropped, as the glass is exposed if it is not accompanied by a case.

Another downside is that apps don't always take the curved screen into account, resulting in buttons and other interactive content being placed in an awkward place. Finger and palm rejection is also another issue.

Anyway, that's the explanation that Xiomi gives for the Mi 10T's “retro” screen. If you don't agree, consumers can always opt for other more affordable versions of the brand with an OLED panel, such as the Xiaomi Little F2 Pro.
