The Beats and Loops app from Finnish company Kovaluu has a very interesting feature: it can use your Android or iOS smartphone as a drum pedal. To start using it, just place your smartphone on the floor and activate the app's pedal mode.
The app uses your smartphone's proximity sensor to activate the pedal, so you can simply move your foot over the screen to control the sound. When you move your foot over the camera again, the app lets you change the beat. The drum machine has 50 pre-defined beats, as well as transitions and changes. All of this can be activated by moving your foot near the screen using the app's pedal mode.
Of course, this should be done carefully, and there is no need to step on the screen, which could damage the device. It is a good idea to use your smartphone with socks, rather than shoes, as in a moment of greater excitement, you may end up stepping hard on it.
Beats and Loops also has Looper, which allows you to use the pedal to trigger loops that you have recorded yourself. This simple feature can greatly expand the app's sound possibilities. Loops can be recorded using your smartphone's own microphone, including with the app. Dolby On.
The app also has a MIDI interface and other functions such as a metronome and chromatic tuner. In addition, it has an audio output for use with sound systems.
