Xiaomi surpasses Apple in the global market and provokes its rival on the networks
Huawei was stopped by embargoes of the US. For a time, this caused Apple regain second place in the global market. But it didn't last: driven by sales of cheaper phones, Xiaomi has just surpassed Apple in the global smartphone sales market and become the second, after megacorp Samsung. And it is very proud of it.
The data has been released by technology research institute Canalys, which revealed statistics for the second quarter of the year. Xiaomi was quick to announce it on social media.
Do you know where X comes before A? In the smartphone market! This is the SECOND largest smartphone brand in the world speaking! Are you confused?!

Xiaomi's growth over the past year has been a staggering 83%, and it has achieved 17% of the global market share. That's 3 percentage points more than the Apple has — and only 2 fewer than Samsung, the market leader, has. While on the international scene many countries are allowing a return to some normality, the survey observed that the economic recovery brought a 12% growth in sales.
It draws attention the low advance da Apple in the last 12 months: just 1%. Samsung has risen more consistently — with 15%. The Chinese companies are making great strides: Oppo grew 28%, and Vivo 27%. Together, they are now in fourth place.
Growth in Latin America
Another interesting piece of data from the survey puts Xiaomi in the spotlight once again: the report highlights the brand's growth of 150% in African territories, 50% in Western Europe, and 300% in Latin America.
There is no filtered data on the Brazilian market — to which the brand returned in 2019, in partnership with DL. Apple is not as powerful here, so it is possible that Xiaomi would have already surpassed it well before. Due to non-comparable data from Stats Counter — due to the different methodologies used — it is projected that Xiaomi could have a market share of 10% nationally — close to the 13,5% of Apple, but far from Motorola's 22% and Samsung's 45%.
