WhatsApp will allow you to verify your account on Android with a connection

WhatsApp is working on a feature called “Flash Calls” that will help users verify their account on the app through an automated phone call. The new feature was spotted by WABetaInfo in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, version 2.21.11.7.

Currently, the WhatsApp offers several ways to verify your login in two steps. The most common is through an SMS with a six-digit code that is sent to the user at the time of access. In the new setting, it will work like this: before enabling the automatic verification feature, the app will require access to the phone's settings to “make and manage calls” and “read the call log”.

After the request, WhatsApp will make a call to verify the account and complete the process automatically. By comparing the last phone number dialed with the one provided to send the SMS code, the messenger verifies the authenticity of the user.

Of course, considering the data policy of Facebook, the app's owner, you may be wondering if there is a chance that WhatsApp could access your contacts and call logs for nefarious purposes. However, according to the WABetainfo, the data collection will only be used for comparison, that is, WhatsApp would not collect previous verification calls.

According to the website, there is no forecast for when the feature will be implemented. It is worth noting that it is likely that the tool will not be available for iOS, since the operating system Apple blocks apps from accessing the phone's call log. According to WABetainfo, the feature will also be optional: users will be able to continue logging into WhatsApp with the six-digit code received via an SMS message or a regular call.
