Vivo Nex 5 to be launched in the second half of the year with under-screen camera

April 5th 2021

While the Apple continues betting on a notch to house the front camera of their smartphones, in the Android universe some manufacturers are already trying to play with the sensor hidden under the screen. ZTE has a device with this technology, and another Chinese company could follow in 2021: Vivo with the Nex 5. It is worth remembering that, last year, the company presented the concept APEX 2020, which had a front-facing camera under the screen.

Weibo Insiders, a Chinese social network, have started releasing the first information obtained behind the scenes. The smartphone could have a basic model with a camera offered through a hole, but a more advanced version would hide the camera under the screen. It would be curious if the line that has relied on pop-up cameras for so long did not adopt this solution even in its cheapest model.

In addition, the Vivo Nex 5 should have a 6,78-inch screen, curved at all corners, with a resolution still unknown, offering a selfie lens with a resolution of 32 MP. Anyone who thinks that it could be just another concept smartphone for Vivo to make a statement may be mistaken, since the possible presence of the GN2 sensor Samsung's 50-megapixel camera — the industry's widest to date and already equipped in the My 11 Ultra — as the main rear camera could point to a competitive product for those who like to take photos. The ultra-wide camera would also bring a resolution of 50 MP.

Quick reload and launch

Insiders are starting to diverge when it comes to the Vivo Nex 5's battery: one of them says that the 4500 mAh tank will be rechargeable at up to 66W via wired charging, and 40W wirelessly. Another points out that the maximum power with the USB-C cable will be 120W, and wirelessly it will reach 60W. Either of these scenarios, if confirmed, would make it a very fast-charging device.

Still far from its launch, a lot could change before the phone hits the shelves: the Vivo Nex 5 would only be officially announced on the second semester. Despite Chinese brands betting heavily on cost-benefit, this family of products is usually not the most advantageous in this sense, precisely because of the first-hand resources it has always tried to offer.
