Twitter for Android gains search for direct messages, years after iOS
Social networking apps often offer more features than their web versions. This is because developers can take advantage of a series of smartphone features to enhance the experience, promoting push notifications, for example. It may seem unusual, but to this day it is still not possible to search for direct messages (or DMs) on Twitter for Android. This historical correction will be corrected soon.
The platform has started releasing the search tool to users, which was already available on the web and iOS — on the latter since 2019. With a two-year delay, the function will be made available on all platforms. The company with the little blue bird is apparently releasing the “new feature” on the open source system in phases, since even with the most recent update to the Play Store, many users are still not getting access.

However, searching for direct messages on Twitter for Android is “better” than on iOS and the web. For some reason, the system only allows the most recent conversations to be searched. Older ones are not filtered. On Android, the function is already able to perform a complete scan of the history. Even so, the search function is still unable to verify the content of the messages to perform a thorough search, only by the name of the users who have already exchanged DMs with the user.
The platform promises improvements to this system soon, more specifically by the end of the year. With many recent innovations, Twitter's latest for direct messages was audio recordings. For the timeline, it arrived the enlarged view of images, and of course, the Clubhouse version of the social network: o Spaces. Finally, account verifications may return as early as next week.
