Tiramisu: this will be the “sweet name” of Android 13

27 July 2021

The older crowd will certainly like the discovery that the guys from XDA Developers revealed this Tuesday (27/07) about Android 13 and the company's history with sweet names. After abandoning, at least externally, the use of dessert names for each operating system update, the practice has returned.

It is not yet certain whether what was revealed today will become public again, but the fact is that the future Android 13, or Android T, does have a sweet name in its project: Tiramisu. “T for Tiramisu,” posted user @_cdesai on the website Android Review. For those who don't know, Tiramisu is a dessert of Italian origin, a type of coffee pavé, normally accompanied by cakes or ice cream.

Android 13 and its “sweet name”, however, are not expected to hit the market, with or without the officially adopted tiramisu, any time soon. Let’s remember that Android 12 was introduced in May, and will arrive in a few months.

The beta 3 of new operating system sent to developers has already given us some hints of what might be coming. One of the main changes should be visual, and in the new interface, Material You, the new version of Android should feature new colors and menu formats.

In beta 3 of Android 12 this is not yet fully visible, but it is possible to notice it by the colors of the pop-up to configure the home screen. There should also be a font adjustment in the default widget that displays time, date and temperature.

The complete “confectionery”

Google has been using sweet names for more than a decade to name Android updates and, in addition to the recently revealed Tiramisu, it has already filled the table, or rather, the smartphones of users of the operating system with tributes to various delicacies. The well-known Android 10, 11 and 12, which were released to the public without the nicknames, were internally referred to as Quince Tart, Red Velvet Cake and Snow Cone.

For those who were curious to know all the names of the Android confectionery's sweets before the future 13, in addition to the three mentioned above, here they are, with the respective version in parentheses: Cupkake (1.5), Donut (1.6), Eclair (2.0), Froyo (2.2), Gingerbread (2.3), Honeycomb (3.0), Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0), Jelly Bean (4.1), KitKat (4.4), Lollipop (5.0), Marshmallow (6.0), Nougat (7.0), Oreo (8.0) and Pie (9.0).

So: it made your mouth water, right?
