Chat Rooms and Soundbites: Facebook's New Audio Tools

April 19th 2021

Facebook has revealed new  details about your audio tools, this Monday (18/4). According to the social network, the new features should reach users at the end of 2021, including an audio chat room platform, which should be similar to Clubhouse, in addition to support for podcasts and the creation of a new content sharing format: Soundbites.

According to a Mark Zuckerberg's companyIn recent months, we have seen a steady increase in the use of audio tools on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, which has led Facebook’s development team to think about new horizons for these features. To further enhance this experience, we will test chat rooms and audio live streams. The solution should be similar to what we already see on Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces.

Podcasts on Facebook

According to Facebook, currently, around 35 million users of the social network are in groups or follow pages related to podcasts. Despite this common interest, they need to leave the social network environment to listen to their favorite programs. With this in mind, the company will create its own podcast platform that will allow programs to be shown directly from the social network.

The new tool should also include a system for suggesting and discovering podcasts based on the user's interests.

Soundbites – audio stories

Meet Soundbites, a feature that will be part of Facebook's new audio tools. Disclosure: Facebook

The arrival of new audio tools on Facebook will also allow users to create Soundbites, a new content format that will allow users to share short audio clips with their followers.

There is still no information on how this integration will work. However, it appears to be a kind of audio Instagram Stories, similar to what is already done on Twitter through voice posts. According to Facebook, Soundbites will not be limited to capturing voice messages, but will feature a library of sound effects to enhance the user experience.

Monetization

The good news is that both Soundbites content creators and podcasters who publish their content on Facebook should be compensated. The company has stated that it understands that the platform will only be successful if creators can make money from what they produce. In this way, fans will be able to support their favorite creators through donations via Stars – the same donation system used in video streams on the platform. Facebook is also expected to introduce new monetization plans soon.
