Asus today introduced the third generation of its ROG (Republic of Gamers) gaming smartphone, and the ROG Phone 3 has some serious technical specifications. To start with, it features the Snapdragon 865+ processor with up to 16 GB of RAM (LPDDR5) and up to 512 GB of storage (UFS 3.1).

In addition to the Snapdragon 865+ version, Asus has launched the ROG Phone 3 Strix Edition, which features the Snapdragon 865. The visual had already been leaked some times, and is very similar to the last version, but has more refined details.

The 6000 mAh battery has a 30-watt fast charge, and despite having greater capacity, the Asus smartphone ends up falling behind its new competitor, the Legion phone duel from Lenovo in terms of loading speed.

Screen is one of the highlights

ROG Phone 3 The 6,59-inch AMOLED display has a Full HD+ resolution (2340 x 1080) pixels, with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a 144Hz refresh rate. In addition, it is protected by Gorilla Glass 6 and has support for HDR10+. The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the screen. The front camera is 24 megapixels with an F/2.0 aperture.

Triple camera

The ROG Phone 3 has a triple camera module, with a 64-megapixel main camera with an IMX686 sensor with F/1.8 aperture and phase detection PDAF, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera with F/2.4 aperture and 125˚ angle, and a 5-megapixel macro camera with F/2.0 aperture.

Resources for gamers

The edges of the smartphone feature AirTrigger 3 buttons, which support new gestures and simulate a dual-partition button. The sound system was made in partnership with Dirac.

The GameCool 3 cooling system features a redesigned vapor chamber, a graphite film behind the display, and a heat sink. Heat is then forced out of the smartphone through two vents on the back of the device.

The smartphone also features ROG HyperFusion technology, which allows access to Wi-Fi and 5G antennas simultaneously, but automatically redirects to the network with the best signal. This means users can continue playing even if one of the networks is unstable.

The USB-C port is on the side, so it can continue to be used while charging. Asus also highlighted its partnership with Google Stadia and Unity to create a gaming ecosystem.

Pricing

The ROG Phone 3 costs €999 (or around $5890) with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The 16GB version costs €99 more. The ROG Phone 3 Strix Edition is a more affordable option, with a Snapdragon 865 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for €799.
