Quantum 2: Samsung officially announces new generation of smartphone with increased security
Samsung has officially launched its second generation of smartphones with enhanced protection thanks to a dedicated encryption chip. We are talking about the Galaxy Quantum 2, a cell phone to be sold exclusively in South Korea, and which this time expands the compatibility of its exclusive technology to a larger network of banking and financial apps.
Costing approximately US$ 622 (R$ 3.552 in direct conversion today, 13/04), the Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2 will be sold exclusively in partnership with the operator SK Telecom. Deliveries begin on April 23, but in addition to being a more secure device for executives who exchange sensitive information, the hardware is suitable for most users.
We have a 6,7-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen with quad HD resolution, which in full HD resolution can provide images with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The biometric sensor is on the screen, and the processor is a Snapdragon 855 Plus combined with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD.
Connectivity includes 5G, as well as Wi-Fi 6, NFC, full Samsung Pay, a USB-C port, and of course, Bluetooth. Additionally, there is IP67 certification for water and dust resistance. Regarding its camera, we have a triple set on the rear, with a 64 MP main sensor and additional ones for macro and ultra-wide photography. The front is 10 megapixels, and its 4.500 mAh battery is recharged at up to 25W, but the kit's charger only provides 15W.
A device to make you feel safe
Samsung's main differentiator for the Galaxy Quantum 2, however, is the QRNG chip, a quantum random number generator developed by ID Quantique. This means that in addition to Samsung's own protections, offered by the Knox system, it is much more difficult for attackers to gain access to your data, because there is a hardware unit dedicated to encrypting it in a way that the hacker would need to not only discover a critical flaw in Android, but also a critical flaw in that hardware.
This makes operations in some banking and financial services much safer, since a number of these credit and payment institutions are integrated into the QRNG system. This additional layer of security, in addition to better protecting against intrusions, practically adds a new login or transaction confirmation step without the user even noticing, and also guarantees identity confirmations that could not be simulated remotely.
Already on pre-sale, interested South Koreans will be able to get gifts in the coming days, such as the Galaxy Buds Live headphones, offered here with the new Galaxy A72 for a limited time. The Galaxy Quantum 2 will be sold in black, purple and white. Many analysts are betting on the phone being launched globally as the Galaxy A82, but eventually without the additional security features.
