Qualcomm unveils chip for TWS headphones with Bluetooth LE

A Qualcomm announced its new chip aimed especially at TWS headphones (True Wireless Stereo) mid-range. The SoC is designed with Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) connectivity, which is expected to be the new standard in the category. The QCC305x promises to support the best features at a more affordable price for developers.

James chapman, vice president of Qualcomm's audio division, spoke about the new chip. “We are entering a new era for the expansion of the audio category. headphones TWS with the chip, which is diversifying at an incredible rate, bringing new use cases and feature enhancements to products at virtually every layer,” he said.

“Not only do our QCC305x SoCs bring many of our latest and greatest audio features to our TWS earbud portfolio, they are also designed to be developer-ready for the upcoming Bluetooth LE audio standard,” Chapman added.

A study carried out by the company shows that the noise canceling, voice calls and low latency for gaming are the main demands of TWS earphone users, and Qualcomm says the new chip was specially designed to help expand these capabilities

“We believe this combination gives our customers great flexibility to innovate across a range of price points and helps them meet the needs of today’s audio consumers, many of whom now rely on their TWS earbuds for both entertainment and productivity activities,” the executive explained.

Mid-range chip, high-end features

The new QCC305x supports audio sharing. In other words, models made with Qualcomm's new chip allow the user to transmit content from a cell phone to several compatible TWS headphones simultaneously.

To optimize low-latency streaming when watching videos or playing games, the chips support aptX Adaptive with audio resolution up to 96kHz. The QCC305x SoCs also include support for aptX Voice and Qualcomm cVc noise-canceling technology for improved voice clarity on calls.

In addition, TWS headphones produced with the QCC305x SoC chip should also have more optimized support for smartphones with the new chip. Snapdragon 888, also from Qualcomm.
