Procon says Uber Eats must be held responsible for scams carried out by delivery drivers

The platform explicitly states that there are messages in the app informing that purchases paid online do not have additional fees to be paid upon delivery. However, the São Paulo Procon says that this information is not clearly demonstrated.
Uber tries to avoid responsibility for “delivery man scam”
Therefore, the consumer protection agency says that it is Uber Eats' responsibility to bear the costs of fraud committed through the service. The agency says that it is an "unreasonable attitude" for the app to avoid responsibility for this problem by claiming that it is "merely facilitating the relationship between consumers, restaurants and delivery people". Uber Eats also claims that it will close the accounts of partners who defraud the terms of use of the service.
Despite the São Paulo Procon's official letter revealing the practice of fraud on Uber Eats, the so-called “delivery person scam” It's not news and much less restricted to a single app. Other competing services have already been used for the same purpose, and the best way — currently — to avoid this is for the consumer to refuse any additional charges outside the app. The agency has not yet detailed how it intends to make Uber bear the losses of the injured consumers.
