Kirin 9000 processors are reserved for Huawei P50 and Mate 50

January 22, 2021

Huawei has been facing some considerable obstacles to its activities lately. The trade war with the US, which has intensified in recent years, is the main, if not the only, factor in the difficulties faced by the company. In order to guarantee the launch of its P50, P50 Pro and Mate 50 smartphone lines, Huawei has already set aside a good amount of the processor Kirin 9000 and Kirin 9000E.

Information brought by the website It Home report that the Chinese manufacturer has reserved eight million units of its 5nm SoC to use in its new devices. A large part of this reserve is destined, according to the information, for devices from P50 lines and Mate 50. With restrictions imposed on Huawei prohibiting the use of American technology or components, processors produced by manufacturer TSMC have become practically unviable for the Chinese company. Thus, it makes perfect sense that Huawei has actually made a good reservation of its Kirin 9000, manufactured by the Taiwanese company.

It is also worth mentioning that this speculation is not so recent. Two months ago, we publish about a possible stock of the SoC for the Huawei P50 and current information reinforces this movement.

Kirin 9000 and Kirin 9000E for the P50

The specifications that we brought this week Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. have announced that the Huawei P50 and Huawei P50 Pro+ will come with the Kirin 9000 and the more powerful Kirin 9000E, respectively. The screen refresh potential of the former, at 90Hz, and the latter, at 120Hz, are a large part of the justification for the difference in the choice of chips.

The smartphones are expected to support 66W (or 50W wireless) charging, but the flagship model could feature 135W technology. The new smartphones are expected to run Android with Huawei's EMUI 11 interface, not the new HarmonyOS.

The information also mentions that a Huawei Mate 50 launch would have its share of the Kirin 9000 SoCs reserve. A foldable smartphone Huawei Mate X2 is another candidate to receive a slice of this stock. In conclusion, it is very good to know that Huawei has millions of Kirin 9000 chipsets reserved to be inserted in different versions of P50, P50 Pro (and who knows P50 Pro+), Mate 50 and Mate X2 cell phones.
