After the Stories craze — a popularized feature via Snapchat and followed by its other competitors — TikTok brought the next “revolution” with viral videos provided by many editing and transition tools. Instagram, YouTube and others have entered this market, and it seems that Pinterest is now starting to explore the short video format as well, with the launch of Idea Pins.
With Idea Pins, the creativity platform improves the current Story Pins, a format for image publications with comments, doodles, emojis and other features. With the new function, users will be able to produce short videos on Pinterest, to allow the audience to follow the manufacturing process of parts, products, and the execution of ideas.
Each Idea Pin can be up to 60 seconds long, and can be cataloged in a collection of up to 20 pins. In other words, in practice, it will be possible to record content of up to 20 minutes, in 20 parts. Interestingly, the video feature arrives less than a year after the platform's stories. It was only last year that the first native editing and customization tools arrived on the service.
Content that does not expire
Just like Story Pins, Pinterest video content can use stickers, mention other users in tags, apply effects, and also a list of instructions for executing a recipe or step-by-step tutorial. On the platform, the content will not disappear after 24 hours, becoming available in a collection like other content on the creative network.
For now, the feature is starting to be released to so-called creators — those who have business accounts on Pinterest. The release is also happening gradually, and initially it will impact territories such as Germany, Australia, Austria, Canada, the United States, France and Switzerland.
