Researchers create system that allows 5G antennas to charge devices
Imagine if, in addition to having a faster connection, you could charge your smartphone? That's the idea of a group of researchers at Georgia Tech, who discovered other properties of the 5G signal. The engineers were able to use the connection 5G to create a font type energy that can be captured by antennas.
Initially, the equipment to collect a reasonable amount of this energy needed to be gigantic, but scientists managed to reduce it to a much smaller device. But that obstacle has also been overcome. “We’ve solved the problem of only being able to look in one direction with a system that has a wide coverage angle,” said senior researcher Aline Eid.

“We can have a large antenna that operates at higher frequencies and can receive energy from any direction. It’s direction agnostic, which makes it much more practical,” added senior lab consultant Jimmy Hester.
Overall, the energy harvested by the new device is up to 21 times greater than previous models. The researchers believe that it will be possible to charge a cell phone with the connection. 5G. The FCC, the US telecommunications regulator (like our Anatel), has already authorized a 5G network that can transmit a much larger amount of energy. “Although today’s 5G was built for high-bandwidth communication, the high-frequency network offers a great opportunity to “harvest” unused energy that would otherwise be wasted,” the study concludes.
“Unbeknownst to them, the architects of 5G have thus created a wireless power grid capable of charging devices at ranges that far exceed the capabilities of any existing technology,” reads another excerpt from the research.
