Research reveals that AR users prefer Google and Apple instead of Facebook

30 July 2021

A survey conducted by the American institute Morning Brew-Harris highlights that the majority of consumers of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) devices in the United States prefer Google devices and the Apple in relation to Facebook.

The study shows that among the main VR/AR technology developers, Apple, Google, Samsung and Microsoft are among the favorites, while Facebook is ahead of brands like Snapchat, LG, Playstation (Sony) and others.

When asked which brand would be a reference in the development of VR products, around 35% of consumers responded Apple as their first choice. In comparison, only 5% of users remembered Facebook for the segment. Furthermore, when asked what motivated the choice, consumers who chose Facebook Apple They claimed it was a matter of trust.

Reflection on Facebook's plans

The research also highlights that the VR/AR audience's lack of affinity for Facebook could be a stumbling block in Mark Zuckerberg's plans. The creator of the social network considers augmented reality technologies as the next evolutionary step of the internet.

In addition to acquiring the hardware company specializing in VR/AR glasses eye Today, approximately 1/5 of Facebook's professionals are allocated to augmented reality projects. Last week, Zuckerberg even went so far as to announce the Metaverse project, a study division that will dedicate itself for the next five years to developing a 100% virtual and immersive interaction platform for Facebook products.

According to Zuckerberg, the idea is for users to have in-depth experiences in an AR environment, allowing them to move around and interact with other users in digital environments. If successful, the project (which sounds like the plans of a character from a sci-fi movie) should transform the way Facebook makes money, transforming it from a media company to what Zuckerberg defines as a “metaverse company.” It remains to be seen how the company will increase its popularity among technology consumers.
