Oppo Watch 2 will have Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor, rumor says
Oppo is developing its next smartwatch, the Oppo Watch 2, with Qualcomm's latest processor, the Snapdragon Wear 4100. The information was discovered by the leaker mlgmxyysd, which had access to the firmware of the new device, and published on the website XDA Developers.
The tipster's evidence about the Oppo Watch 2's processor is based on the build property file, which mentions the SoC as “msm8937_32go,” the same naming in the TicWatch Pro 3 firmware. So far, Mobvoi's smartwatch is the only one equipped with the Snapdragon Wear 4100, although there are rumors about the development of a Motorola wearable with the chipset.
The Oppo Watch 2 will also reportedly come with an Android 8.1 Oreo-based interface (likely Wear OS) and 16GB of internal storage — double that of its predecessor. Other details include new watch faces, the introduction of a stress-detection tool, and an app called “Oppo Relax.” To access the features, the tipster loaded the apps onto a first-generation Oppo Watch.
According to the leak, the Oppo Watch 2 will have the same square design as its predecessor — the leaker based his information on information contained in the firmware placeholder files. In parallel, there are already images circulating in China showing what would be a teaser of the Oppo Watch 2 alongside the newly launched Oppo Enco Free2 and Oppo Reno 6.
Smartwatch would work with associated processor
During the launch of the Oppo Reno 6, this Friday (27/05), the Chinese company stated that its next wearable, without specifying exactly the model, will come with a processor called Apollo4s, developed in partnership with the American company Ambiq. At first, this detail would challenge the adoption of the Snapdragon Wear 4100, but according to the informant it is a complement: the two chips would work together so that the wearable would run a low-load real-time operating system (RTOS) alongside Wear OS. This would help save energy when the device was not performing many tasks.
In any case, we still don't know if the smartwatch mentioned by Oppo is the same device found by the leaker. After all, the Chinese version of the Oppo Watch has a different processor and operating system than the international version, which would not change in the Oppo Watch 2. The evidence mentioned by the informant, however, seems reasonable enough to expect news from the Chinese company in the coming weeks.
