The highly anticipated Oppo F19 lineup could be launched in February in India. The information was posted on Tushar Mehta's Twitter profile XDA Developers, who also stated that the F19 may actually be called the Oppo F21. The reason for this name change is quite simple, it's 2021, and Oppo wants to pay homage to the year that has barely begun.
Furthermore, the doubt regarding the name stems from a small inconsistency on the company's part. The F line was launched in 2016 with the Oppo F1. From then on, all of its members had odd numbers in their names, resulting in the Oppo F3, F5, F7, and so on. In 2020, instead of launching the F13, the successor to the F11 launched in 2019, the company launched the Oppo F15 and F17, in other words, a complete mess.
So, if the Oppo opting to skip the F19 and go straight to the F21, to match the year of its launch, at least makes more sense than the aforementioned change. In any case, it is certainly a curious marketing strategy, if it proves to be true, as the leaker claims.
Oppo F19 (or F21) remains a mystery
However, we don't have any concrete information about the Oppo F19 for now. However, rumors about the smartphone have been circulating since 2018. Among them, the rumor that it would come with up to 10x hybrid zoom, which combines optical zoom with digital zoom. This was interesting, at the time, for a mid-range model and, perhaps because of this, the smartphone was never launched. The technology's debut was then left to the Reno 10X ZoomIn 2019.
In any case, there is no reason to rule out the possibility of the technology being used in the Oppo F19, if it is indeed launched next month. Especially after the Oppo's latest patent, which demonstrates how the company continues to work on hybrid zoom. But it's hard to go beyond that.
Since this is a rumor, and since the journalist did not show any type of document or reliable source to support it, there is plenty of room for skepticism. This is even more true for Oppo's F line, which has been the subject of countless rumors and gossip, especially regarding its launches. For now, it is prudent to wait for Oppo to make a statement or for a more tangible leak to happen. Or, thinking optimistically, wait for the smartphone to be launched in February.
