Oakley launches Kato, sunglasses with augmented reality presentation
Oakley has just launched the Kato, a pair of sunglasses that are so different that they come with an augmented reality presentation for smartphones on the box. As you can see from the photos, the Kato is a pair of glasses without a frame, with temples that attach to the head, and a single lens that follows the contour of the nose and increases the user's field of vision.
In addition to the very different design, which is more reminiscent of a superhero mask, Oakley's Kato comes in a special “pod”, a package that resembles a flying saucer and which comes to life through a Augmented Reality for mobile. The AR presentation begins by showing some of Oakley's most iconic eyewear designs, such as the Over The Top 2000. Then the presentation shows the differences of Kato, and how it looks on a rendered face. The pod then opens and presents the real glasses.

The production of the Kato sunglasses required Oakley to develop a new manufacturing process, with special molds and a new type of lens adhesive. The sunglasses come in several iridescent colors, such as blue and purple, and feature Prizm lenses, which highlight colors and contrasts.
