Who likes the Samsung cameras can prepare for even more advanced technology in the company's photo system. Last Thursday (4), the South Korean company announced the new sensor ISOCELL 2.0, which promises better light sensitivity and less color interference.
The sensors with the technology have been part of Samsung smartphones since 2013. The feature is focused on improving light absorption and reducing the so-called color “crosstalk”, which is when one pixel ends up interfering with another. The feature places a physical barrier between the pixels to prevent this from happening.
No ISOCELL 2.0, instead of this division between the pixels being made of metal, as in the standard version, in the new model the barriers are formed by material with less capacity to reflect light. The change is precisely because this reflection can interfere with the final quality of the captured image. This was first done in the ISOCELL Plus, currently used, but now promises much more efficient light absorption.
“ISOCELL Plus replaced the metal barriers with a new optimized material. However, the barriers still contained some metal which caused the lower parts of the color filter barriers to absorb light, resulting in some optical loss,” explains the brand.
New sensor standard
“As a result, the image sensors “can include more pixels to produce finer details without compromising vivid color reproduction,” says an excerpt from the video released by Samsung announcing the new ISOCELL 2.0 sensor. The brand also guarantees “an even higher standard of photography.” Today, Samsung offers 108MP sensors, but the South Korean company has already said that it has a long-term goal of cameras with the resolution of the human eye, something between 500MP and 600MP.
Although the presentation took place this week, Samsung said it already uses ISOCELL 2.0 in the 0,7 micron pixel sensors announced in late 2020. New models with improved camera technology are expected to be confirmed soon.
