Billiard mystery: iQOO 8 arrives on the 17th with a hidden camera (not necessarily under) the screen

August 5th, 2021

Vivo Global is preparing the iQOO 8 series to hit the market on August 17th and, judging by the latest leaks, with news regarding the selfie camera and also the screen, which will be supplied by Samsung. Don't get excited, however, if you're expecting an under-screen lens, as this feature will not be improved.

In two different posts On Weibo, China's main social network, the brand made it clear that the selfie camera will not be under the screen, but will feature something different that, according to the announcement, will be a “special hidden optimization”. In other words: Vivo seems to have figured out how to “hide” the selfie camera without necessarily placing it under the screen.

“World Premiere. The display effect is a high-level screen ceiling. This is the answer to our iQOO 8 series. The final secret will be revealed soon. I want to hear your answer on August 17th.” posted the brand. iQOO 8, which is a sub-brand of Vivo Global, hopes to repeat with the new model the success achieved with its last models, which sold impressive numbers on the day of their launch.

What else?

Besides the news about how to hide the selfie camera and the confirmation that the iQOO 8 screen will be Samsung E5 LPTO, there are still few rumors in terms of specifications of the future Chinese smartphone. From the posts released, we can know that it will have 6,78 inches and a refresh rate of 120Hz.

The curvature of the screen, judging by the image in the posts, seems quite slight, and the hole for the selfie camera, which is (still) quite visible, is centered. Leakers who have already speculated about the smartphone say that it will be a device with “excellent power consumption and brightness”. Regarding the processor and other configurations, the hottest clue at the moment is still a video posted by Feng Yufei, President of IQOO, on July 19.

On that occasion, the executive appears playing pool and, with a good shot, using the 8-ball to pocket the 4. “A little buddy asked me what the next priority was, and I showed him,” he joked. It was speculated that the “4” would refer to the launch date of the iQOO 8, which would have the Snapdragon 888+ as its chipset. Since the date was confirmed for the 17th, it remains to be seen whether Qualcomm's processor will be the “hidden” hint to be confirmed.
