Microsoft has purchased Movial's operations in Romania, Taiwan and the United States, with the aim of having its own team working on adapting Android to run on the Surface Duo.
With the purchase, Movial’s headquarters in Iasi, Romania, will now be a Microsoft development center. In addition, Movial’s 60 employees in the country will now be Microsoft employees.
Movial has been involved in adapting Android for the dual-screen device since the beginning, when it was still a prototype. So the decision to purchase it makes perfect sense.
If the rumors are correct, the Surface Duo should launch with the Snapdragon 855 processor with 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage, and will not feature 5G connectivity. According to the latest speculations, a smartphone with two 5,6-inch AMOLED screens may be launched soon.
According to reports, the team has already finished working on the Duo system. Now the team is reportedly starting to develop the design for its successor, the Surface Duo 2.
With the purchase, Microsoft will handle all Android releases and updates for the Surface Duo and any future Android devices from the company. The Surface Duo is expected to launch with Android 10, but is expected to have Android 11.
