iOS is not Fortnite's biggest source of revenue for Epic Games

Amid the lawsuits involving Epic Games and Apple, a recent report pointed out that iOS is not the biggest source of revenue for the Fortnite developer. In fact, it is one of the smallest this year. Thus, before the game was banned from the App Store, Epic reportedly made an additional $700 million in revenue from iOS users during the two years the game was listed on the app service. Apple.

Last year, the documents said that the PS4 already had the largest share of the chart with 40% of revenue, followed by the Xbox One with 24%, while iOS already had the smallest revenue with 5,8%. The revenue leader for Epic Games with Fortnite is the PlayStation 4, followed by its competitor of the same generation, the Xbox One. According to the new documents revealed by The Verge recently show that “the PlayStation 4 generated 46,8% of the total revenue of Fortnite from March 2018 to July 2020, while Xbox One, the second-largest platform, generated 27,5%. iOS came in fifth, with just 7% of total revenue. The remaining 18,7% would be split between Android, Nintendo Switch, and PCs.”

It comes as no surprise that the majority of Fortnite's revenue is not on mobile devices (Android and iOS), but rather on consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Interestingly, both Apple as much as Google (responsible for the Android system) have had problems with recent lawsuits with Epic Games. And these documents released now, may somehow help the Fortnite developer in the trial against Apple. But some experts say that “contrary to what Epic says, the App Store and the iPhone compete with other smartphones, tablets, PCs and even game consoles.”
